One issue that really preoccupies people is the making of choices...choosing between two good options...will I move house or not? Will I take this job or not? Even will I marry this person or not? Most of us struggle along usually relying only on our heart or our head...usually meaning that our decisions are often not the best for us. Ignatius of Loyola (who founded the Jesuit order) devised a very clear method for making decisions...
I used this method when I was trying to decide whether I would move out of Dublin

Do you know what "success" means to YOU? Yes, we all know what the media portrayal is: for women it's being a size 8, climbing the corporate ladder, maintaining a perfect house, spending lots of quality time with her children, keeping her husband happy, but also being completely up to date fashion wise. For men, it seems to be: be great at sport, have a woman on your arm that makes other men drool with envy, be top dog at work but do it all while being ostensibly very modest and droning the usual "I had a great team behind (way behind..) me" platitudes.
Today is a beautiful day in Connemara (west Galway - Ireland) and so I'm asking myself what am I doing here...blogging? I watched a beautiful, never to be repeated sunset last night as well...and thought I could be dead next week...and let's continue on that cheerful note!
Over the past few months I have been working on changing my eating habits, more particularly working to change my default eating habits...if that makes sense. I've always loathed the idea of diets and calorie counting...and the diet bores that fill the canteens of this country. You know the ones.."ooh, I ate a mars bar yesterday. I'm so BADDDD!" Usually from a woman who could fit neatly into her own handbag. Get over it, lady!
Hi Folks
In these days of political correctness I came across this rather delightful example of a greeting. I know it's for Christmas...but could be successfully adapted for Easter!
GREETINGS AND BEST WISHES FROM A LAW FIRM
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.
Last week we saw the most extraordinary thing: Ian Paisley (who has been a major hate figure in our house since I was a child) sitting down with Gerry Adams....and promptly getting together to tell Peter Hain to bugger off back to Westminister (albeit in more polite terms)...it seems almost unbelievable to me.
One of the issues that regularly comes up with people who complete the free goals report service I offer on my website: www.annewalshcoach.com (OK, plug over!) is that of procrastination...
Now procrastinators are in good company...Elizabeth I was a famous procrastinator...and it didn't do her any harm..and in this spirit I am posting the Procrastinator's Creed (which I got at: http://www.eskimo.com/~spban/creed.html
Some of the work I'm doing at the moment with clients is based on Laura Berman Fortgang's programme: Now What? Find your life blueprint. At the beginning of the programme people are asked to identify what they hate about their lives...A consistent theme for most people is clutter...just having too much "stuff" around the place. They feel stifled, confined, frustrated by it.
Now I have to say, I loathe clutter. I grew up in a house where my mother had many china ornaments that struck me as (a) hideous, (b) dust magnets and (c) very prone to getting knocked over and broken (not that I'm speaking from personal experience or anything...<g> )
I've never really been the domestic goddess type but over the last couple of years (particularly with my own house) I've realised that I've never had a proper sort of system for doing deep deep cleaning ...you know the behind the press cleaning...where you find you have been breeding strains of cholera with the amount of dirt. Usually I waited until the dirt was actually seeping from behind the press before doing something about it...this year I decided to be different.
